Global Water Dances
After four weeks of hard work mixed with leisure time, the technical writing and community work of the Rathangan proposal, deep diving into the culture and biology of Ireland at Achill Island, and some much needed shore leave for the students. The group faced their next challenge in Ireland's cultural capital, Cork City.

Due to the nature of this trip, the majority of disciplines present were from the realm of STEM. As a result, the concept of creating a dance from the bottom up in order to portray a unique and personal message about water was completely foreign and met with hesitation.
The week was long, frustrating, and at times everyone was ready to give up. What could we gain from dancing? Are we really learning anything from these exercises? Our scientific, technical backgrounds were blinding us from seeing the use that abstract communication had in our concrete disciplines.

We forged ahead despite out reluctance, persevering through long days within a stuffy dance studio. Finally, things began to fall into place and what seemed like nothing quickly formed a final product.

It's difficult to quantify the learning experience that came out of this week. Before this week many of us had never experienced such an artistic, abstract project and while it was a grueling week the group walked away with a new experience and an idea for how the integration of STEM and Arts could fit into the real world. Hardships also form the strongest bonds, the group came into this week feeling still as acquaintances stuck with each other an ocean away from home and left it as if they were family.
